This past weekend, Mike, myself, and a friend, Diana, went to Pensacola to see an Ice Flyers hockey game. I was never a hockey fan - in fact, the sport was forgein to me! But now I can officially say that I'm a fan! (So is Mike!!)

Here's a view from our seats!

Diana's boyfriend, Aaron (aka Hagrid) works with the Ice Flyers. His nick name is 'The Big Show'. He was running around the civic center the whole time running the show! Good Job Hagrid!!

After the game (which they lost horribly 7-0) we got the chance to ice skate! I'm not a pro by any means and Mike had never ice skated before! For the first few laps, he held on to the wall! At one point, he had traveled away from the edge. He says to me "Get me back to the edge!" I go to grab his arm and he then says "Don't touch me!!!!" Diana happened to capture that moment! ha ha ha!!!

When packing for this trip, I forgot to pack socks! I am a flip flop girl, and didn't need socks for my everyday wear! We, however, made a trip to Walmart to buy socks. I found these beauties for $3.50. They are really soft and go up to the knee! They would have been great to winter! I also forgot to pack regular jeans! My capri pants were the closest thing to pants! I have to admit, they look pretty silly with ice skates!
Diana loved my 'fashion statement', so she took a picture!

Overall, we had a GREAT weekend! Lots of fun, saw great friends, ate and drank too much!!

I want...... pleeeaaassseeeee??????

I want to take a minute and show you what is on my 'want' list.... These would make a great birthday gift (or belated birthday gift since my birthday was in January!), an early Christmas gift, or just a 'because gift'! : )

I want a new camera - really bad! I have had my eye on a DSLR camera.... not any one in particular; ANY would do! I hate my current camera.... and hate is a VERY strong word that I do not use often... but I think hate is a good work for my current camera!

Take a good look at this beauty!I have also found a few Cricut cartridges that I would love to have! How cute are these!?!?

Some of the bigger, more popular blogs let other bloggers add a link to their website when they have crafts or food recipes they want to share. I decided to share my applique towels!

Applique

For a friend's birthday, I decorated kitchen towels with an applique 'D'.

Here is the final product:

Something to keep in mind:
-Be sure to wash the towel and decorative fabric first.
-This project was done with an embroidery machine and each sewing step is pre-programmed. You may be able to do this with just a regular sewing machine, although it may be harder and more complicated than my steps.... Thank you mom for my embroidery machine!!!! : )

The first step is to put a stabilizer on the back on the material.

I used pins on each corner to hold down the stabilizer. If you try to hoop the stabilizer and the material without the pins, it turns out to be quite hard.

Here's the back view:

Front View:

The embroidery machine traces out the letter. (sorry - I didn't get a picture, but I think you can imagine what the letter D looks like) : )

I then took a different fabric - something really colorful and full of pattern - I held the fabric down while the embroidery machine sews the 'D' onto the fabric.

The next step is to cut the excess fabric.

Put the hoop back onto the machine and continue sewing around the 'D'.

Now the sewing is done! Take the fabric out of the hoop and remove the stabilizer from the back. The stabilizer will pull away easily from the sewed edges.

Vola! You're done!

These turned out so good! Can't wait for another project using my embroidery machine!

Waldorf Slaw

Thanks to Deni (Mike's sister) I have a new love..... Waldorf Slaw!

Ingredients
  • 1 (16-ounce) bag 3-color slaw mix
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, diced small
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup poppy seed dressing
After making this recipe once, we decided that it needed somethings more. Round two of making this was much better! Make sure you use a heaping 1/2 cup of Mayo and a heaping 1/3 cup of poppy seed dressing. We also added lemon juice - approx. 2 tablespoons.

Be sure to mix it well and let it sit for at least an hour.

Enjoy!

For the past few years, I have played in the back yard attempting to grow vegetables. I was never trying to grow enough food to survive off of, just something to watch grow!

This year, I have decided to dedicate my whole planting area for Okra. I've grown okra before, just not enough to do anything with!

Not only do these plants produce a great vegetable, but they have beautiful blooms!

My goal this year is to pickle LOTS of okra! I LOVE LOVE LOVE pickled okra!

I hope to take pictures during this eventful time and keep everyone updated!!!

Summer......

For those who do not know, I passed my Real Estate test! Yeah! Now I don't have to worry about it for another 2 years!

So, today in the newspaper was a catalog for Lowe's. The whole catalog was featuring summer products which makes me want summer to be here already! Hot weather, fishing, grilling food, ice buckets with cold beer, playing bocce balls, tubing down the river.... I could go on and on!

My goal this summer is to go scalloping!
